How to get Android P Developer Preview?

Released early this March, Android P Developer Preview is available only for Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. For this, you can download the Android P system image and flash it to your smartphone, or you may make the use of Android SDK Emulator on your PC or laptop. If you are really interested in getting your hands on it now, you may go to xda-developers.com for detailed steps about getting the image working on your device. Be sure that your phone may not work properly if anything goes wrong!

What will it be called?

We all are familiar with the nomenclature of Google of their Android devices. They always give them the name of foodstuff which is generally sweet. Till now, the name has not been announced and I hope that they will do so soon around the summer. Or maybe it will simply be called Android 9. But there are rumors suggesting the name would be Android Pi or Pie or something related to Pie. Some point to Pineapple while some point to Popsicle and Pistachio Ice Cream. But some go with Peppermint!

When will it come to my phone?

A consumer preview of Android 9.0 will most likely be announced during Google I/O 2018. Owners of new phones with the likes of LG, Sony and Samsung's latest Galaxy S9 and S9+ may receive an OTA update for Android P. Nokia has confirmed that all their 2017 smartphones will get Android P.

What features can be expected?

According to Android Developers, key new features in Android P include:
  • Simplicity, speed, and many new ways to extend your apps
  • MessagingStyle and other notification updates
  • ImageDecoder for bitmaps
  • Data cost sensitivity in JobScheduler
  • Multi-camera APIs
  • Smart Battery Management
  • Customizable charging sounds!
  • Suggested notifications to hide
  • Lock screen pattern trail will be hidden

You may notice that you would have already experienced hidden lock screen pattern trail if you have used a Mi smartphone or any other smartphone which already has that feature. But small changes like customizable charging sounds is interesting! There are more features that will be revealed soon. You can visit xda-developer.com for more.
