Not to be confused with your Uber cab driver, a driver in sense of computers is a software that allows your computer to be able to communicate with your hardware or connected peripherals and devices.
Without drivers, the hardware you connect to your computer - for example, a brand new GTX 1080 Ti graphics card or a simple inkjet printer - won't work properly as that hardware will not be able to understand what your computer is telling them to do. Now if you want your graphics card to be able to work out, you must install the drivers which are normally given with the card or you may find them online. A driver is a translator for the respective hardware. When you have that translator, the card easily cooperates with your computer and when you don't have it, your card doesn't understand the instructions and becomes a waste.
